123E 1.2 Pre-Crossflow — the engine behind the Anglia Super

The Ford Anglia 123E arrived in 1962 as the more powerful 1.2-litre development of Ford’s distinctive reverse-window Anglia.

Its 1,198 cc pre-Crossflow Kent engine replaced the smaller 997 cc unit used in the 105E and brought the Anglia a useful increase in performance while retaining the simple, lightweight Ford OHV architecture. The National Motor Museum records the 123E Super at 1,198 cc, four cylinders, overhead valves and approximately 49 bhp at 4,800 rpm.

The engine itself belongs to Ford’s early Kent Pre-Crossflow family: a cast-iron inline-four with the camshaft in the block, pushrods operating the valves, and inlet and exhaust ports positioned on the same side of the cylinder head. Motomobil specifically identifies the 1.2-litre Anglia 123E within this Pre-Crossflow family.

This GasketKeys piece recreates the head-gasket profile of that early Kent engine as a compact stainless-steel tribute to one of Ford’s most recognisable small classics.

Engineering & Craftsmanship

  • Industrial Grade Build: Precision laser-cut from premium 304 stainless steel with a durable brushed finish.
  • Protective Frame: Presented inside a 3.3 mm CNC-machined PLY frame.
  • Technical Precision: Cylinder bores, coolant passages and major gasket details are digitally mapped from original gasket geometry.
  • Letterbox Friendly: Slim under-5 mm packaging keeps UK delivery straightforward.

These construction points follow your GasketKeys framework.

A subtle Anglia memento

The Anglia’s reverse-raked rear window is what most people recognise first, but for classic-Ford enthusiasts the 105E/123E Kent engine family is an equally important part of the car’s character.

The 123E in particular marks the more desirable 1.2-litre Super specification.

Rather than another Anglia silhouette or Ford badge, the gasket profile represents the actual mechanical architecture under the bonnet.
