Cosworth YB – Ford Sierra & Escort RS Cosworth Head Gasket Keychain
YBB / YBT / YBP — the Cosworth YB legend
Few Ford engines have a stronger identity than the Cosworth YB.
Developed from Ford's Pinto-derived four-cylinder architecture and transformed by Cosworth with a 16-valve twin-cam aluminium cylinder head and turbocharging, the YB became the engine behind some of Ford's most important homologation-era performance cars.
The YBB powered the original Sierra RS Cosworth and later the rear-wheel-drive Sapphire Cosworth, establishing the basic road-going YB formula. Cosworth's own historical material describes the YBB as the engine that first put the YB onto the road in the Sierra RS Cosworth.
The engine was then developed into the YBT for the Escort RS Cosworth. Its large Garrett hybrid turbo was selected with motorsport homologation firmly in mind and delivered 227 bhp at 6,250 rpm in road specification.
In 1994, the YBP replaced it. A smaller Garrett T25 turbo and Ford EEC-IV management improved low-speed response and everyday driveability while retaining essentially the same overall performance level.
This GasketKeys piece recreates the distinctive Cosworth YB head-gasket profile as a miniature stainless-steel tribute to the Sierra and Escort RS Cosworth lineage.
Engineering & Craftsmanship
- Industrial Grade Build: Precision laser-cut from premium 304 stainless steel with a durable brushed finish.
- Protective Frame: Presented inside a 3.3 mm CNC-machined PLY frame.
- Technical Precision: Cylinder bores, coolant passages and major gasket features are digitally mapped from original gasket geometry.
- Letterbox Friendly: Slim under-5 mm packaging keeps UK delivery straightforward.
Those construction requirements come directly from the supplied GasketKeys framework.
A subtle Cosworth memento
The YB is one of those rare engines whose identity can be stronger than the car surrounding it.
For enthusiasts, terms like red top, blue top, big turbo, small turbo, YBB, YBT and YBP immediately identify particular stages of Cosworth history.
That makes the head-gasket shape especially suitable for GasketKeys: it references the engineering itself instead of relying on another RS or Cosworth logo.
