LUAE 1.6 CVH — the engineering behind the RS1600i

Before the Escort RS Turbo arrived, Ford developed one of the most technically interesting naturally aspirated versions of the CVH for the RS1600i.

The LUAE 1,597 cc engine produced 115 PS, using Bosch fuel injection, higher compression and significant cylinder-head development compared with the normal Escort CVH.

The RS1600i's modified ports, camshaft and valve gear gave it a much more specialised identity than an ordinary XR3 or XR3i, and helped position it as one of the important early front-wheel-drive RS Escorts.

This GasketKeys piece recreates its head-gasket geometry as a small stainless-steel engineering tribute to the RS1600i rather than simply another piece of RS-branded merchandise.
